Day 1: ARRIVE IN MILAN, ITALYWelcome to Milan! At 5 pm, meet your Tour Director and travel companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)

Day 2: MILAN–BUSSETO–PARMA Style & Taste in Northern Italy Your guided walking tour in Milan includes sights of Sforzesco Castle, the Galleria, La Scala Opera House, and the Duomo, followed by free time. Continue to the village of Busseto, birthplace of the composer Giuseppe Verdi for a stroll in Piazza Verdi to see the impressive municipal fortress Rocca dei Marchesi Pallavicino, location of the Giuseppe Verdi Theater. Try some local dishes for lunch before [LF] visiting a local caseificio (cheese making factory) for a Parmesan cheese tasting. (B)

Day 3: PARMA. EXCURSION TO MODENA & MARANELLO Cathedrals & Classic Cars Discover more of Emilia Romagna and its rich culture. Start the day with a guided sightseeing of Parma that includes sights of the Cathedral, bell tower, and octagonal baptistry. Enjoy free time to visit the Cathedral and see the celebrated frescoes. Continue to Modena to [LF] visit the renowned Acetaia Leonardi. Learn about the meticulous process behind balsamic vinegar production and enjoy a tasting. Follow that with a short drive to Maranello, headquarters of the Ferrari car manufacturer, for a [LF] visit to the Ferrari Museum. Enjoy free time this evening. (B)

Creating classic Balsamic Vinegar requires the patience learned through four generations of devotion and respect for the 18th-century traditions at Acetaia Leonardi farm. The farm sits on 27 acres of vineyards where Trebbiano and Lambrusco grapes are grown to produce a delicate balance of sweet and sour in this Modena specialty.

Day 4: PARMA–LUCCA Treasured Time in Tuscany Drive into one of Italy’s most celebrated regions, Tuscany, and arrive in the beautiful walled town of Lucca. Enjoy an orientation walk of the delightful historic center, followed by free time this afternoon and evening to explore more. (B)

Within the walls surrounding the medieval city of Lucca, the modern world fades away. Day 5: LUCCA–PORTOVENERE–CINQUE TERRE–GENOA Sights to Sea This morning drive to La Spezia, the starting point of your Cinque Terre and Portovenere adventure. First stop is Portovenere, the unofficial “sixth village” enjoy some free time before continuing your boat ride to Monterosso, one of the Cinque Terre villages, spend some time exploringbefore continuing your journey by train. Gracing the hills above the Po Valley, the Castello di Gabiano has made history as early as the 8th century. Once the site of sieges and wars, the castle has passed through noble families over centuries to become one of the oldest and largest manors in Monferrato. Today, its tradition of winemaking is shared with tastings of vintages aged in its cellar barrels in a tradition passed down since the 12th century.

Day 8: TURIN Monumental Mysteries This morning join your Local Guide for a sightseeing tour in the elegant city of Turin, with its grand piazzas, palaces and churches. See the city’s landmark Mole Antonelliana, and visit the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, home to the “Shroud of Turin”. Enjoy some leisure time this afternoon and evening. (B)

With its dizzying mix of old and new, of sophistication and squalor, Genoa (Genova) is as multilayered as the hills it clings to. It was and is a port city: an important maritime center for the Roman Empire, boyhood home of Christopher Columbus (whose restored house stands near a section of medieval wall), and one of the largest, wealthiest cities of Renaissance Europe. Capture glimpses of Genoa's former glory days in Genoa's portside Old Town, where treasure-filled palaces and fine marble churches stand next to laundry-draped tenements. Life within the old medieval walls doesn't seem to have changed since the days when Genovese ships set sail to launch raids on the Venetians, crusaders embarked for the Holy Land, and Garibaldi shipped out to invade Sicily in the 19th-century struggle to unify Italy. Modern Genoa, which stretches for miles along the coast and climbs hills, is a city of international business, peaceful parks, and breezy belvederes from which visitors can enjoy fine views of this colorful metropolis and the sea which defines its identity.

Genoa: Genoa for Families - 8 hours

This morning you will be met by your English-speaking guide for a full day excursion to Genoa. Today you will immerse yourselves into the water world of this city! Your visit will start in the largest and most innovative sea museum of the Mediterranean, the Galata Museum, with a 10,000 sqm area set in a stone-and-glass building. It outlines the evolution of the maritime town’s port using an approach which is not exclusively scientific, in that it gives ample space to interactive and multimedia-related aspects. One of the museum’s gems is the faithful reconstruction of a 17th-century Genoese galley (being 40m long) placed upon its original slipway.

Besides the more traditional halls (about Colombo, Andrea Doria, and so forth), visitors can explore the Arsenal rooms, see the Darsena armoury, go aboard a 19th-century brigantine, finally going through a Cape Horn tempest recreated through virtual reality. Among the other exhibitions you can find the Waterfront Plan (“Affresco”) by Renzo Piano and the panoramic terrace MIRAGenova.

Visit the famous Aquarium, Europe’s largest marine park: 71 tanks, 800 species, and over 10,000 specimens set against the incomparable backdrop of the Gulf of Genoa. The tour (approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes) unfolds through the spectacular scenery of a myriad of sights of the Old Port of Genoa – the Aquarium is indeed located on the old wharf of Ponte Spinola – and through 40 large tanks, in addition to 19 open ones which use the space of a real ship called “Nave Italia”, allowing people to actually touch the fish by hand.

The reproduction of the original natural habitats of the individual species at the Genoa Aquarium is also wonderful: not only marine fauna but also reptiles, amphibians, and generally rainforest and freshwater animals.
